LGBT Youth North West established in 2005 with two main aims:
- To have a better support network across LGBT youth groups in the region to be able to more effectively keep lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people on the agenda.
- To give young people the opportunity to come together to engage in regional events and activities such as Pride Youth Games and Peer Educator Training.
In the time since then we have been fortunate enough to have received considerable funding to enable us to grow our regional work – providing greater opportunities for young lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people to engage in regional positive activities throughout the North West.
We have also been able to provide extensive training opportunities to professionals working within the youth setting, exploring issues of sexuality, gender, homophobia and transphobia.
In 2008 Lesbian and Gay Youth Manchester (LGYM) celebrated 30 years of services for young people in the city. In 2011 LGBT Youth North West took the opportunity to take over the running of these services for LGBT young people.
In 2012, LGBT Youth North West founder – Sally Carr – received her MBE for services to LGBT youth in the region.
In 2015, celebrating LGBT Youth North West’s tenth birthday, the organisation changed it’s name and is now know as The Proud Trust.
